The nursing home, Bello Sguardo was built in 1840 on the site of a cottage called Hermitage Cottage. When the latter was pulled down in 1825, a Mediaeval undercroft was discovered beneath it, and human bones were found in the garden. It is thought that this is the site of St Michael's Chapel, extant in 1545. This chapel is also thought to be the former oratory of St Werstan.

A villa named Bello Sguardo (SO 77394578) has been suggested as the site of St Michael's chapel, destroyed shortly after the Dissolution. When the villa was built in 1840 a cottage called The Hermitage on its site was pulled down which contained carvings of an ecclesiastical nature. Parts of coffins and bones were dug up in its orchard. (1)

The site of St Michael's Chapel appears marked in the map given
by Dr Thomas in his account of Great Malvern priory published
in 1725. Some small remains of this chapel, which was probably
the oratory of St Werstan, were reported still to exist within
a walled garden in the upper part of the village. (2)

St Michael's Chapel, recorded in 1545, was on the site of Hermitage Cottage which, when pulled down in 1825, was found to have beneath it medieval undercroft. (3)

SO 77394578. Bello Sguardo is now a nursing home. The staff know nothing regarding St. Michael's Chapel. (4)
