CROFT AMBREY

DESCRIPTION + /

Earthworks of a multivallate Iron Age hillfort. Excavations have identified at least seven phases of occupation, the latter phases date to the Roman period. Excavation of a mound within the interior revealed a possible Romano-British religous sanctuary or temple. Two Medieval pillow mounds are visible as earthworks. The site has been mapped from aerial photographs.
